Among the largest community foundations in the country, BRAF focuses their work in three key areas: service to nonprofits, guidance for donors, and collaboration with the community.
The Foundation collaborates with community leaders to address new opportunities and challenges effectively; one such collaboration resulted in the formation of the Baton Rouge Health District. They help donors amplify and channel assets that fund key initiatives and solutions they care about. BRAF supports local nonprofits by providing continuing education, consulting, and site visits to enhance their impact and sustainability.

Pennington Biomedical Research Center
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, part of Louisiana State University, is globally recognized for its pioneering research in obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dementia. Our Lady of the Lake Health
Our Lady of the Lake Health, a nonprofit, Catholic healthcare ministry based in Baton Rouge, provides comprehensive care for a wide spectrum of illnesses and injuries in both pediatric and adult patients. The organization employs over 7,500 staff and collaborates with more than 2,900 active physicians, including 600 employed doctors.

Woman's
Woman’s is a specialty hospital dedicated to the care of women and infants, located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Since its opening in 1968, the hospital has welcomed nearly 400,000 babies, making it one of the largest delivery services in the country and the largest in Louisiana. As a private, nonprofit organization, Woman’s was among the first women’s specialty hospitals in the nation and has consistently received recognition for its exceptional care, aligning with its mission.
In a continued effort to enhance its services, Woman's opened Louisiana's first inpatient perinatal mental health unit for pregnant and postpartum women in 2024. The hospital performs over 8,500 surgeries and 35,000 breast procedures each year while also processing more than 57,000 Pap screens annually. Notably, Woman's is the first hospital in the Baton Rouge area to achieve Nursing Magnet® status. For the past 17 years, it has also been recognized by Modern Healthcare Magazine as one of the Top Places to Work in Healthcare.
