Lead Institution:
Dr. Beverly Ogden, Woman's Hospital
Additional Partners:
Dr. Joseph Francis, Louisiana State University – School of Veterinary Medicine
Launchpad Award Date:
May 2023
“Developing Multicellular Organoid for Precision Therapy” is studying a novel approach to cancer research and therapy that personalizes and accurately tailors a patient’s treatment options to their specific gene and protein types. Variations in particular genes and proteins within a person’s cancer cells may affect their care, including their treatment options.
A pilot project led by Woman’s Hospital in partnership with Louisiana State University – School of Veterinary Medicine uses patient-derived samples to grow multicellular cancer organoids. Through this research of cancer biology and new drug testing, better care outcomes for patients with cancer can be achieved. This pilot specifically addresses the unique genetic makeup of cancer cells in individual patients to improve care outcomes for people living with cancer.
